24 April 2008
The southern node of the GINKS/IICD Projects had its first meeting for 2008 on the 17th of April 2008 at the Institute for Scientific and Technological Information (INSTI)
The meeting which attracted participants from the ministries of information, communication and health, also had representatives of NGOs and private organisations in attendance.
Speaking on the theme Benefits and Strategies of Sharing Information on a network, the co-ordinator of the GINKS/IICD Southern node projects and the assistant co-ordinator of GINKS Mr. Prince Deh, said that members of the network will achieve and progress more, when they exploit the opportunities of sharing information on-line. He said that this is the only way on-line collaboration can be effective and meaningful. He also said that members should do all they can to be prompt with their responses and requests on line.
Buttressing Mr. Deh’s point Regina A. Dogoe of CSIR-PGRRI told the story of how blogging has improved her personal capacity and has expanded her readership, when GINKS helped her uploaded her information to members on it’s list. She said “if information is relevant to what I need, then it will build my capacity”.
Advising members of the South project node, the resource person mr. Dzandu Michael Dzigbordi of the Information Studies Department, UG, Legon suggested that it is the responsibility of the private individual, the companies, the government and policy makers to engage in sharing knowledge, as this helps to develop society and set it on the right track.
